Cutting Corners | Canvas Print
Description: A quiet corner of Canowindra — Cutting Corners captures everyday life, soft light, and a playful twist of observation.
Painted en plein air in the heart of Canowindra, Cutting Corners captures the quiet rhythm of a cloudy day on the bend of the main street. The green building on the right houses a hairdresser, while the shop beyond was once a doctor’s surgery, and the corner building a quilting and sewing shop — each with its own link to the idea of “cutting.”
The composition itself “cuts the corner,” looking diagonally across the curve of the street beneath shady verandahs and soft, overcast light. A single parked car adds a touch of everyday life.
Rendered in my impressionistic, painterly style, this work reflects the calm atmosphere and gentle humour found in observing small-town Australia — where light, architecture, and community meet in the simplest of moments.
