Silverton Ruin (11"x 14")
Description:
Painted en plein air on a wild, wind-whipped day in Silverton, this 11” x 14” oil on Belgian linen panel captures the weathered remains of a stone building just across from the iconic Silverton Pub.
The view was irresistible—simple, strong shapes, rough edges catching the light, and a window framing the open sky where a roof once stood. The building is mostly backlit, with shadowed stone contrasting beautifully against the muted hues of saltbush and outback earth.
Painting here wasn’t peaceful. Tourists on foot and in cars passed by, some circling back more than once to take a look—classic outback rubberneckers. Each passing vehicle kicked up dust that whipped into my eyes, palette, and painting, making the process more chaotic and raw… but also more alive.
This piece captures not just the subject but the experience: a moment in the landscape, full of light, grit, and character—ideal for my loose, impressionist style.
