Golden Arches (9"x 12")
Golden Arches captures a quintessential view of Canowindra’s Gaskill Street as seen from beneath the verandah of the Royal Hotel. Painted en plein air, the scene is framed by the pub’s distinctive lattice arches, their shade offering a cool contrast to the sunlit street beyond. A row of century-old facades and awnings lines the opposite side, their history echoed in loose, impressionistic brushstrokes. A few modern cars are suggested with minimal marks, hinting at the quiet rhythm of daily life. The familiar Tooheys beer sign hangs amidst the shade of the arches, anchoring the work in the timeless atmosphere of country pubs and main streets. With its painterly immediacy, this work reflects both the heritage charm and lived-in character of Canowindra’s heart.
