Description
‘Past Darby’s falls’ is a small plein air painting. Inspired by some big rocks covering a hill side on the road from Darby’s Falls to Wyangla NSW. It was late in the afternoon on an Autumn day. Painted on the roadside verge. I love places like this. The sculptural qualities of the rocks and their shear size, random placement and timelessness never fail to spark my imagination. They are beautiful and primally sacred.
#GETOUTSIDE
In response to Covid19’s impact on the world. Or more the worlds response to the crisis in particular. I have decided to make a few changes to the way that I spend my time. Rather than working in the sterile and isolating space of my studio I am driven to get outside and work ‘en plein air’. This is how I once worked but for various reasons I drifted into working in the studio, using photos and memory as my source material. So returning to working from life for me is very exciting. I feel free again with nature as my subject. I am enjoying travelling around and stopping at places I would normally drive past, spending some time and doing a bit of exploring. I find that I am more engaged as an artist seeing the world as my studio.
Although I still work by myself I can at least see other people getting out and doing things as well. I hope that this is the direction people take. Rather than living in a state of fear and dependance. My work itself has gone low tech. I just need my paints and a subject to paint. Or less, I could do a drawing of my shoe with a piece of charcoal if it came to that. But I also have the opportunity to share more of my artistic process through social media. You can find more of that kind of thing at my linktree account or here on my website .
