Spirit of Ego (9″x 12″)

$1,040.00

‘Spirit of Ego’ is an original oil painting on Belgian Linen Panel. 23cm x 30cm (9″x12″)

The name of the painting references my seduction by the black horse in the painting. The horse was included in the painting because of my childhood experiences with a horse I used to ride named ‘Witch’. Other horse I could ride were ‘Tinkerbell’ and ‘Bopeep’. I preferred the ‘Witch’. She was black. Although the black horse was actually there, it moved around a lot and became quite difficult to complete. I doggedly included the horse for no other reason than my memory of that proud and wilful horse. Maybe some of its spirit rubbed off on me.

Comes framed with ethically sourced Australian plantation solid Oak.

Description

Introducing “Spirit of Ego” – a captivating 9″x12″ oil painting on Belgian Linen by David Isbester. This poignant piece transports viewers to the old railway precinct in Canowindra, where a large silo shed stands as a silent sentinel of the past. Amidst this industrial landscape, a black horse emerges, its presence lending a sense of mystique and symbolism to the scene. As Isbester’s childhood memories intertwine with his artistic vision, the horse becomes a poetic reference to his own sense of pride and stubbornness. Painted en plein air, “Spirit of Ego” captures the dynamic interplay between man-made structures and the natural world, evoking a sense of nostalgia and introspection. With each brushstroke, Isbester invites viewers to ponder the complexities of human nature and the enduring legacy of our past.
