We are preparing to do some outdoor painting this year after hottest part of the year has past. It is time to get back to my roots of travelling and working from life. Painting en plein air and making nature my studio once again.
It has been 2 years since I last took the French easel out. And I remembered that it was requiring a few ‘in the field’ modifications to keep it functional. So this was a good chance to find out all the necessary repairs that were needed and bring it back to functioning as new. When you are out painting you get very used to making do with what you have at hand. So that you can push on and focus on painting. Pieces of string, odd bolts, nuts and washers, blue tack, gorilla tape and even velcro come in handy. Often being cannibalised from other pieces of gear. But nothing beats a proper overhaul when you have the time, correct tools and materials at hand.
So why not make it a school holiday excursion. A short trip to a near by public reserve called Fishermans Bend, a great place to set things up and take a good look.
